Ampol has agreed to acquire Evie Networks for $225 million. That matters locally because Evie runs every public fast-charging hub in Hervey Bay, at Eli Waters and the Homemaker Centre in Urraween, plus the new charger at the Council headquarters in Pialba.
It's a strong vote of confidence in public charging. Ampol reports that charging sessions on its AmpCharge network more than doubled in the first half of 2026. It sees fast charging as a core part of its future, especially for drivers covering longer distances and households without a charger at home. With EVs now more than a quarter of new car sales in Australia, a well-funded operator focused on growing and upgrading the network is good news for regional drivers. Ampol has also previously named Stockland Hervey Bay as part of its planned AmpCharge rollout with Stockland, so watch this space.
For now, nothing changes at the charger. The deal is subject to ACCC clearance and is expected to complete in the first half of 2027. Until then, Evie sites keep running through the Evie app.

Level 2 chargers (7–22 kW) are the most common at accommodation and workplaces. Best suited to overnight charging or longer stops. Always verify your vehicle's connector type before arriving at a new site.
