Fares change often, so rather than quote a price that might be out of date, we'll point you straight to Jetstar's own fares page for direct flights to Hervey Bay from Sydney and Melbourne. Checked 30 June 2026
Hervey Bay Airport offers direct flights from three major Australian cities, making it one of the easiest regional airports in Queensland to fly into for a coastal getaway or whale season trip.
Qantas operates direct flights, just over an hour in the air — ideal for a quick weekend escape.
Jetstar flies direct, around 1.5 hours — a fast, easy run to the Fraser Coast.
Jetstar flies direct, around 2.5–2h45 hours, with four flights a week.
For the latest fares and schedules, check the deals banner above or search directly with Qantas or Jetstar.
A hire car gives you the most flexibility once you land — Hervey Bay and the wider Fraser Coast are easiest to explore at your own pace, especially if you're heading further out to Maryborough or the K'gari ferry terminals.
Hervey Bay offers several car rental options, with many agencies located near the airport and within the town centre, including Avis, Hertz, Budget, Europcar and Sixt. Many offer pick-up directly from the airport.
Vehicle types: compact cars suit solo travellers and couples; SUVs and 4WDs suit families or anyone planning to explore K'gari (Fraser Island) or other off-road spots; people movers suit larger groups.
A few tips: book ahead in peak season for the best rates and availability, check what's included (insurance, fuel policy, GPS, child seats), and confirm 4WD availability if K'gari is on your list — its sandy terrain needs it.
Hervey Bay's roads are easy to navigate with minimal traffic, and parking is widely available and free near the beach and most attractions.
Prefer not to drive? Hervey Bay is well served by ride-share, taxis, and a couple of excellent local operators who know the area better than any app.
Run by Adam, a Hervey Bay local, RideAll offers airport transfers with real-time flight tracking, plus K'gari (Fraser Island) ferry terminal drop-offs — all in a quiet, fully electric Tesla. No account needed, booking takes about two minutes.
Visit RideAll →A family-owned Hervey Bay driver service covering airport transfers, medical appointments, and longer trips to Maryborough, Bundaberg, the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane — handy if you need to travel further afield during your stay.
Visit Your Personal Driver Services →Uber operates throughout Hervey Bay. Traditional taxis and airport transfers run 24/7.
A flexible local bus service can be booked via app or phone for short trips around town.
Great for the Esplanade — hire locally for an easy ride to the marina, cafés or beach.
Flat terrain and a 16km waterfront path make Hervey Bay genuinely walkable.
Whale season (July–October) is Hervey Bay's busiest period, and flights from Sydney and Melbourne run only a few times a week — so fares rise quickly as seats fill. Booking 60–90 days ahead generally gets the best price, especially for the August–September peak.
You can comfortably get by without one. Vila Paus sits on the Esplanade, walking distance to cafés and the beach, with Uber, taxis, and e-bike hire covering everything further out. A car (or a local transfer like RideAll) is mainly useful for day trips to Maryborough or the K'gari ferry terminal.
Vila Paus has its own on-site EV charger, free for guests during their stay. For charging options elsewhere around the region, see our EV driving guide for Hervey Bay.
The airport is a short drive from Vila Paus. Uber and taxis both service the route, or for something a little more memorable, RideAll's Tesla airport transfer tracks your flight in real time, so there's no waiting around if you're delayed.
Yes — vehicle and passenger ferries depart from Urangan Marina multiple times a day, and most day-tour operators will pick up directly from your accommodation. See our Hervey Bay & surrounds guide for current tour options.
Whale watching tours depart from Urangan Marina, a short drive or free shuttle from Vila Paus (it isn't within comfortable walking distance). Many tour operators include guest transfers — check with your chosen operator when booking, or see our Whale Watching guide for details.
Our Ferny Grove Suite is a brand new apartment a short drive from the Brisbane CBD — same direct-booking advantage, same honest pricing.
