🐋 Whale Watching Season Returns to Hervey Bay JULY – OCTOBER
Learn more

Every winter, thousands of humpback whales migrate to the calm protected waters of Hervey Bay — creating one of Australia's most unforgettable wildlife experiences.

From July through October, visitors enjoy close encounters with playful juveniles, curious whales, and mothers travelling with newborn calves. Peak season falls across August and September.

Staying at Vila Paus places you moments from Urangan Marina, where all whale watching operators depart — many offering complimentary guest transfers.

Whale season is also the perfect time to explore nearby K'gari (Fraser Island), enjoy Esplanade dining, coastal walks, stand-up paddle boarding, and everything the Fraser Coast has to offer.

Is there parking and EV charging?

Yes — each villa has its own designated off-street parking space. A 7 kW Level 2 EV charger is available on-site; just let us know ahead of arrival if you'd like access.

For more detail on charging in the region, see our EV driving guide for Hervey Bay.

Are you suitable for families with young children?

Yes — families are very welcome. Both villas have plenty of indoor and outdoor space, and we provide board games and books for younger guests.

We don't have a cot or highchair on-site, but both can be delivered directly to the villa. We recommend The Breezy Co. Hire Co. for prams, cots, car seats and feeding essentials, or Hire for Baby as an alternative — both offer delivery to Vila Paus or Hervey Bay Airport.

Your Stay

Arrival & Local Area
Can I check in on my own?

Yes. Each villa has its own coded lockbox and private entrance, so check-in is fully contactless and flexible around your arrival time. No need to coordinate with anyone — we'll send through the access details ahead of your stay.

How much communication can I expect?

That's entirely up to you. Some guests enjoy local tips and regular check-ins; others prefer to be left to it. We'll follow your lead and be available whenever you need us — just not in the way.

What's the location like?

Vila Paus sits directly on the Esplanade in Urangan — steps from the beach, and close to most of what makes Hervey Bay worth visiting.

  • Urangan Pier & Esplanade — historic pier, beachside cafés and relaxed waterfront walks right outside
  • Whale watching marina — a 10–12 minute walk to Great Sandy Straits Marina, where all whale watching tours depart (July–October)
  • K'gari (Fraser Island) day trips — depart from Urangan Marina; day tour options here
  • Botanic Gardens, Reef World Aquarium & Marina precinct — short walk for a morning wander
  • Pet-friendly beach — directly across the Esplanade; off-leash zone just a short stroll away
  • Shopping & essentials — groceries, bakery, pharmacy and bottle shop just around the corner
  • Local events & markets — check our Hervey Bay events calendar
Where can I hire beach gear or equipment?

We recommend Hervey Bay Holiday Hire — a trusted local provider that delivers directly to the villa, so your gear is waiting when you arrive.

  • Beach gear — trolleys, umbrellas, chairs, coolers and toys for the foreshore
  • Baby items — cots, highchairs, prams and travel essentials
  • Mobility equipment — wheelchairs, walkers and scooters
  • E-bikes & bicycles — ideal for the 16 km Esplanade pathway
What dining options are nearby?

Urangan has a relaxed café and dining scene along the Esplanade — most walkable from Vila Paus. For a broader guide to restaurants and nightlife in the area, visit our Dining & Nightlife page.

Getting Here & Getting Around

Travel & Transport
How do I get to Hervey Bay?

You can fly directly into Hervey Bay Airport, or drive from Brisbane (approximately 3.5 hours) or the Sunshine Coast. For flights, car rental and transfer options, see our Hervey Bay Flights, Car Rental and more page.

How do I get around once I'm there?

Drive or hire a car

Greatest flexibility. Car hire agencies operate at the airport and around town; roads are easy and parking is plentiful. Book ahead in peak season.

Ride-share & taxis

Uber operates throughout Hervey Bay. Traditional taxis and airport transfers run 24/7 — useful for evenings out or a direct run from the airport.

On-demand bus

Hervey Bay's flexible bus service can be booked via app or phone — good for short trips around the residential and shopping areas.

E-scooters & e-bikes

Perfect for the Esplanade. E-bikes available for hire — a low-effort way to reach the marina, cafés or beach.

Walk or cycle

Flat terrain and a 16 km waterfront path make Hervey Bay genuinely walkable. Vila Paus is at the marina end of the Esplanade — most of what you need is within easy reach on foot.

Pets

Pet-Friendly
Are pets allowed at Vila Paus?

Absolutely. Well-behaved pets are welcome at both villas. Hervey Bay is one of Queensland's most pet-friendly coastal destinations, and Vila Paus is right across from a pet-friendly beach, with an off-leash zone just a short stroll away.

We simply ask that pets stay off the furniture and are cleaned up after — so we can keep the villas in great condition for everyone.

Several cafés along the Esplanade have outdoor seating that welcomes pets, and pet supply stores are a short drive away.

Where are the nearest off-leash areas?

There are off-leash dog beaches and parks within easy walking distance along the Esplanade. The maps below show current designated areas near Vila Paus.

Booking & Policies

Rates & Cancellations
10%+ off platforms

Book Here & Pay Less

Our direct rates are at least 10% lower than what you'll find on Airbnb, Stayz, or Booking.com — because there's no platform commission built in. No code needed, no catches. The rate on our calendar is simply the lower one.

How do I book?

The easiest way is directly through our booking calendar — just select your villa and dates below. You can also email us at holiday@vilapaus.com.au or use the Contact Us page if you'd like to ask something first.

What is your cancellation policy?

We use a moderate cancellation policy designed to balance flexibility for guests with fair occupancy for us.

Notice given Refund
More than 30 days before arrival Full refund
14–30 days before arrival 50% refund of total stay
Within 14 days of check-in Non-refundable

If you need to cancel within the partially or non-refundable window, we'll work with you to find the best outcome. If a replacement booking is secured, we'll refund your stay up to the value of that booking, minus any transaction fees.

* This policy applies to reservations made directly through the Vila Paus website. For bookings made via Airbnb, Stayz, Booking.com or any other platform, the relevant platform's cancellation policy applies.

Do longer stays cost less per night?

Yes — our pricing automatically rewards longer stays. Holiday homes have fixed costs (professional cleaning, linen, restocking) that don't multiply with each extra night. Rather than passing those costs on repeatedly, we spread them across your stay, so the average nightly rate decreases the longer you're here.

Just enter your dates into the booking calendar to see the difference — no codes or manual adjustments needed.

Why is the direct rate lower than booking platforms?

When you book through Airbnb, Stayz, or Booking.com, those platforms add their own service fees on top of our rate — and that cost is passed on to you. By booking directly here, that fee is never applied. The rate you see on our calendar is our genuine base rate, with nothing added on top.

There's no promo code to enter. The direct rate is simply the lower one. More about how our pricing works →
